Baixar PDFThe objective of the study was to analyze the trend of hospitalizations for femur fractures. This studyused data from two Ministry of Health information systems, made available online and tabulated in an Excel spreadsheet. Subsequently imported into the software Joinpoint Regression Program that performed segmented linear analysis, with logarithmic transformation of the values. The historical series of ten years showed 843,121 hospitalizations in Brazil for a femoral fracture. For males, there was a decrease in admissions, however, their overall trend remained significantly higher at 1.6% per year (95% CI 0.8 -2.4). The female sex presented a growth of 3.5% (IC95% 2.8 -4.3) of hospitalizations during the whole period. For the age group 60 years or older there was a significant increase of 4.9% (95% CI 4.2 -5.6) in the hospitalization rate. The Northeast region presented the highest annual average of increase, with an increase of 3.2% (95% CI 1.0 -5.0) of hospitalizations per year. There was a greater trend of hospitalization for femoral fracture among women and in people over 60 years old, in addition to regional differences, with a greater number of cases in the North and Northeast Regions.
